WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

CWA Local 1080 scholarships are open to dependents (son, daughter, legally adopted child, legal custody) of CWA Local 1080 members in good standing, age 17-26, entering or continuing their education at a two- or four-year academic program at a degree-granting, accredited college or university in a full-time basis.

HOW MANY SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED?

A total of 5 scholarships will be awarded annually.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Scholarship awards are based upon academic record, extra-curricular and outside school activities, career goals, and performance on a typed essay.

Scholarship candidates must submit the following:

  1. The applicant’s high school transcript; applicants must possess a 2.5 GPA or better.
  2. The official Scholarship Application (postmarked between January 1 and March 1);
  3. Proof of relationship or dependency to a CWA Local 1080 active member;
  4. Proof of enrollment in an accredited two- or four-year academic program at a degree-granting, accredited college or university.
  5. A minimum 500 word, typed essay on any Union or Labor Movement based subject.

Applications postmarked before January 1 and after the March 1 deadline will not be considered.

HOW WILL WINNERS BE SELECTED?

Once the evaluation criterion has been met, all eligible applicants will be selected via lottery. In the event that there are five or less eligible applicants, no lottery will be held.

AWARD DATE:

Winners will be drawn at the lottery drawing at the June monthly membership meeting.

Winners will be individually notified by mail, and all applicants will be sent an email with notification of the award listing.  Please note that due to the volume of applications, the Executive Board cannot provide any information on the status of an application, but can acknowledge of receipt of the application.

DISQUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants can and will be disqualified for the following:

  1. If all of the required evaluation criteria is not included with their application.
  2. If there is evidence of their essays being plagiarized.
